Free Grade 5-6 Science Unit: DNA

Free Grade 5-6 Science Unit: DNA

Another easy-to-use, open-and-go science unit for your cycle 3 students is here! It's a great introduction to DNA, a quick way to review, or a fun way to expand when your learners want to know more! Plus it includes a fun experiment using some simple kitchen items and fruit that allows students to extract and view DNA!

I have really been having a lot of fun making these quick science units to use with my own kiddo who will be in grade 6 this coming school year. I wanted a way to introduce some concepts to her that would cover the Quebec Progression of Learning, but also allow us room to explore topics she's interested in. I also wanted to avoid spending time on topics she's already learned about or things that just don't pique her interest. That's exactly why I designed them this way!

In this unit, we'll explore what DNA is, how its structured and why its important. It's a great unit to use right after doing the Plants and Animal Cells unit I posted last week too.

What's Inside:
  • 4 pages of reading
  • A fun coloring page, showing how DNA base pair work
  • An experiment with lab pages

You can download this free unit using the link below!
Whether you're homeschooling, teaching a co-op class, or even in a classroom (in-person or digital), I hope this unit helps you and your students learn while engaging in meaningful discussions and having fun!
