Another history unit is here! This unit will cover the main 'Political Situation' progressions in the Quebec Education program progressions of learning for New France around 1745 (for grades 3-4 / cycle 2)

As always these units come with very easy-to-use QR codes for research. 

In this unit, one QR code is used to answer comprehension questions, while another is used to do a timeline project.

The progressions checklist is a great way to keep track of which progressions the unit covers so that you'll know exactly what you are covering in this unit. You can alongside my free progression checklists for each grade to help you.

In this unit, you'll find a page of comprehension questions to show what your child has learned, as well as a fun timeline project kids can do about some of the intendants of New France.

These make great portfolio additions and are easy to put into binders and notebooks for safekeeping. I have also included an answer key to help, especially for parents of students who do most of their work on their own.

 Free Writing Unit: Trace Color and Write for Kids who Love to Draw!

Do you have a kiddo who LOVES to draw - and draw and draw? I do! That is why I made these super cute and fun trace, color and write pages - and am sharing them with you!

My youngest especially loves to trace pictures lately and make up stories about them, so to encourage her creativity I thought these would be a lot of fun. They're a great way to fit in some extra writing practice every day, and even have some sneaky vocabulary words slipped into them that will help your kids write better!

In this little bundle I've included 8 pages of writing prompts - 8 with word banks and 8 without. The drawings are pretty and inviting for kids to trace and characters and objects that will inspire their imagination!

They would be great boredom busters at home, or perfect for teachers who have early finishers in their classroom who need something engaging to do. They could easily be printed out and put on a table for kids to choose from.

I've also included a blank page that your learners can use to trace any drawing they would like to and write a story about it. If you use simple copy paper to print these on, it's usually pretty simple to trace with. My youngest has also hung a picture she wants to trace on a  window before and then put a piece of copy paper over it to trace. Of course, light tables work amazingly if you're lucky enough to have one too!

Learning all about money can be fun for kids - but it can sometimes be difficult to find resources that teach how to use Canadian currency. I made these slides and posters for my own kids and hope that they'll help you in your classroom or homeschool too!

Included in this freebie, you'll find a link to the google slides version, or a pdf version that you can print. Every page shows an illustrated picture of the coin or bill, shows its worth and how to count while using it. Hanging these up can be really handy when kids are just learning to count money.

I've also made sure to include equal amounts on each page - for example, showing that a 20-dollar bill is worth twenty dollars, but it is also worth 2000 cents. 

I made sure to include information about the good ol' penny too. This page is a quick introduction, while a later page goes into more detail about why we don't use pennies in Canada anymore.

This slide or poster shows why the nickel is the smallest amount of Canadian money that you can hold in your hand. It tells kids why Canada stopped making pennies, and how inconvenient it would be for us to still use them today.

I also made sure to include pages about how to write out dollars and cents. This is another handy poster you can keep on the wall as a reminder. Below, I also made pages showing how you can use different coins and bills to build the same amount of money.

I'm happy to bring you another Quebec history mystery for grades 3 and 4!

This unit focuses on the people who lived in New France around 1645 - the seigneurs, censitaires, filled du roi, and more!

As always these free history printables come with easy-to-use QR codes for research. The QR codes are numbered and lead to pages on the Learn Quebec website. Here, students can research and find the answers to the questions inside the unit.

It also includes a handy list of progressions of learning that the unit covers. If you need help following those, be sure to grab my free Quebec progression of learning lists here.

I've made sure to label the comprehension pages with which QR codes to use to find the answers too - a new addition I thought many would find useful!

The questions are made with third and fourth-graders in mind, keeping answers short and to the point to show what they have learned. They made a great addition to a learning portfolio to show what your child is learning about in social studies.

 Free Counting to 10 Apple Math Center and Craft

Have you ever tried to get preschoolers or kindergarteners interested in counting? It can be a challenge! That's why I hope that these Count, Craft & Learn! Centers will help you - whether you're a classroom teacher or a homeschooler!

Included in these free centers are a few elements. You can pick and choose what you'd like to use in your own classroom. The important thing here is that kids are learning to associate the symbol of a number with the meaning of a number of objects - and they're learning to count too!

The first thing you'll find is an apple tree mat with a place for counting cards on the side. The cards that go with it feature two important things - a number and a ten frame representing that number.

Kids can use the included apple counters, or you can use the counters you have on hand. They will choose a card, put it on the mat, then count out that many apples on the tree. Alternatively, you could also put a random amount of apples on the tree and have them find that matching number card.

The next element adds a bit of fun to your lesson or center time. It is some very cute clipart of apple-picking kids. After counting out their apples, kids can use these pieces to 'pick' the apples. Adding a playful element like this to centers for this age always makes the lesson so much more memorable.

Finally, there is a craft. Kids will glue any amount of apples (up to 10) onto a tree and write that number.

I have also included a bonus page for kids to practice tracing numbers - this can help a lot if they don't know how yet!

 Quebec History Mystery 17: New France Around 1745

It's time to dive into another history mystery! This one starts our newest journey into New France around 1745. Want to see other units? Check out my history page!

We read about the beginnings of what would later become the province of Quebec in the last few units. This unit will bring your learners 100 years ahead to New France circa 1745. This first unit will dive into the territory, the population, how the land was divided among seigneurs and colonists, and how villages were formed. It covers plenty of progressions too!

As with all of my other history units, this one includes QR codes or links to make research super easy. All of these links lead to Learn QC, a safe and simple site for kids to navigate and read all about Quebec history! The reading is short and to the point so that you don't have to spend looking up information.

I have also included a list of progressions covered in the unit. You can use my free progression checklists to make certain you've got most of those covered too - using all of my units together will cover them all!

Inside the unit you will also get some free comprehension questions. You could use these in the traditional way of researching with your child and having them write the answers down, or you could answer them orally together. I always try to include questions I know wouldn't be too challenging for a 3rd or 4th grader - having had a few in my own homeschool I know that oftentimes workbooks use really challenging language for this age group.

These worksheets can be used to show learning in portfolios too!

I always also include maps and charts that might be useful to your learner(s), especially if they have trouble focusing on these charts on the computer screen (like one of mine does!)

Free Phonics CVC Word Mats Construction Theme

Phonics mats CVC recording sheets - Kids can use these to write the words they learn to read while using the mats.

The mats include all CVC short vowel word families - they're the easiest thing to begin with after your child has learned their letter sounds. Start by belding together the ending (ahhhh-t, for example). once your child can do this, add on the beginning letter. (rrrrrr-ahhhhhh-t  - rat!)

Kids will use the beginning letter tiles to build words. I have also included some fun trucks they can use to transport their letters, just like it's a real construction site. A little bit of play always makes learning so much more fun - and memorable!
